Community housing industry body applauds reunited housing portfolio

The appointment of Robert McClelland MP as Minister for Housing and Homelessness has been welcomed by the Community Housing Federation of Australia (CHFA), the national industry body representing community housing providers.  This decision is seen as a significant and positive move by CHFA and other housing groups, who have been calling for the appointment of a dedicated Housing Minister within Cabinet.

“Today’s announcement brings the housing portfolio back within a single ministry,” said Carol Croce CHFA Executive Director. “The elevation of the Ministry into Cabinet indicates that housing and homelessness is a top priority for the Gillard Government”.

CHFA anticipates that the consolidation of the housing portfolio will foster a more holistic approach to developing housing policy and administrating programs.
