The Community Housing Council of South Australia (CHCSA) advised on Tuesday 30 June that Housing SA have approved movement to the next phase of the eagerly awaited Common Equity South Australia (CESA) proposal. 

CHCSA have been working towards the establishment of a common equity model in SA for some time now as a means of strengthening the community housing sector in what is becoming a very competitive environment for smaller community housing providers. 

According to CHCSA, "Housing SA and CHCSA will now move into negotiations about a process to develop the proposal, with a view to establishing CESA as a new organisation in the Sector. It is planned that CESA will operate as an‘Umbrella Organisation’, providing a range of benefits and supports to any Community Housing provider who wishes to join". 

CHCSA will establish a new Steering Committee to bring CESA into existence and will act as the auspicing body until CESA is legally and financially established.

CHCSA will be keeping members informed as the proposal develops and intends to hold a sector wide Forum in the near future to further explain the concept and receive sector input. It is also intended that any Community Housing provider wishing to hear directly about the new initiative will be able to invite a CHCSA and CESA representative to discuss the proposal at a Board of Management or General Meeting.
